Chorale Française de Melbourne
Coming soon!
An evening of Christmas and other songs from the French speaking world. All funds raised at this event are donated to local charity DIVRS who make hampers to support local families at Christmas time.
Our debut album, BONJOUR, will be available to purchase at the event, featuring some of our best repertoire.
La La La was established in 1998 by Catrine Berlatier, who wanted to share the songs she sang in her native France with friends in her adopted country of Australia. So began the journey, and we are still going strong. All singers are from a range of backgrounds, but share a love of the French world. Professionally directed by Paola Bastreri-Grey, we sing a largely a cappella repertoire. We became incorporated and a registered charity in 2024.
Our repertoire comes from all corners of the French speaking world and from round about 14th century to the present day. This allows us a tremendous range of different styles, from 20th century jazz to renaissance courtly love songs, from boozy drinking songs to gorgeous devotional prayers. Think Fauré and Gounod, then think wild warriors on the rampage, love lorn youths or country bumpkins being teased.
From 2025, we rehearse at St Andrews Fairfield Uniting Church every Wednesday evening at 7:30 sharp
We have recently become a registered charity!
That means we can take gifts and donations. Anything above $1 is tax deductable. All contributions will be put towards promoting and teaching beautiful French and chamber music in the Melbourne community.
From July 26th we will be releasing our very first album. This was a collaborative effort from our many members, from recording the music, to designing the album artwork and translating songs. We are beyond excited to showcase the brilliant repertoire we create at La La La. This album is available to purchase at all future events, and will be available for streaming from August!
